Manuka honey
Manuka honey comes from the blossoms of the manuka tree, which is native to the mountainous regions of New Zealand. Since it contains methylglyoxal, a by-product of sugar breakdown, manuka honey has strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties. The Maori knew of the diverse healing properties of this special honey and used it for various purposes including treating colds and for external disinfection. Whether eaten on its own, added to warm tea or as an additional health booster in a ginger shot, manuka honey stands out not only for its positive health effects, but also for its intense spicy taste.
